About Me
We have 4 married children and we all have born again Christian homes, for which I am very thankful. We are delighted to see this passed down from generation to generation. I am a people person and love visiting, and helping them too, in any way I can. I love a good cup of hot tea with friends, neighbors, or family. And now blogging has become my latest passion, many thanks to a wonderful grandson. May you all find the joy, peace and happiness in our Lord Jesus Christ that I have found.
Electric Blankets
Posted by clare3
We would not go through one of our very cold winters without our electric blankets. For a warm cozy night's sleep, there is just nothing like a good electric blanket. I think it is time for us to get new ones, and in checking the Internet, I found a great sale and free shipping depending on my choice. The low voltage electric blankets are a very safe blanket. Much has been said negatively about electric blankets but I believe they are safe and they certainly keep you warm and comfortable. They make for a good night's rest.
Muffins
Posted by clare3
I got a call the other day from my daughter. She said "how would you like some muffins?" I said sure, I'll be right over. Son-in-law had baked a fresh batch of muffins. They have nuts and chocolate chips in them. They are delicious. I had one yesterday and am eating one now. That way I have another for tomorrow. He is a good cook, baker, dish washer and I call him Mister Mom:0) Labels: Anniversary Family, Family, muffins
New Television Program
Posted by clare3
I watched the new program on Fox called "Touch" last night. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like it. However, it has Kiefer Sutherland in it who did the programs "24" and really liked him in those. It was enjoyable and I will be watching it some more. I love all the CSI programs and NCIS too. I like exciting programs. Another new one is "Revenge" and "Body of Proof" and I enjoy both of those as well. Labels: CSI, Kiefer Sutherland, NCIS, Touch
What a Winter
Posted by clare3
First we don't have but 5" of snow for almost 2 1/2 months and then BAM! We got about 6" and then 3-4" more and now tonight they are talking a bit more perhaps. However, one good thing is that it is really melting. The plows have done a good job on the city streets and hope they keep it up. There is now a lot of slush again. They could push that off and the streets would almost be clear. Now if it would just dry. They say overnight the roads will freeze and be slick in the morning and I have to drive somewhere. I hope it is ok when I leave.
Buy Gazebo
Posted by clare3
I have decided that I want to add something to our home where we can sit and relax with a good cup of coffee, tea or capiccino. Several things came to mind, however, to buy gazebo seemed to be the best option of all. My sister has one and they enjoy it so much. Every morning they out and watch the sunrise with a hot cup of coffee and sit in their gazebo and relax. In looking around for one, we found the Amish make the most beautiful Gazebo. They have the skills to make really fine products of several materials. Labels: buy gazebo, enjoy a gazebo
Let's Eat Cake
Posted by clare3
I found a great easy recipe to make just a little cake when you crave some: Labels: easy cake, individual cake, small cake
3, 2, 1 CAKE
These individual little cakes are amazing and ready to eat in one minute! They are perfect
for whenever you feel like a treat without all the fat and calories that cake can have. Genius idea!
INGREDIENTS:
1 box Angel Food Cake Mix
1 box Cake Mix - Any Flavor
2 Tbsp Water
Makes 1 serving.
DIRECTIONS:
In a ziploc bag, combine the two cake mixes together and mix well. For each individual cake serving, take out 3 Tablespoons of the cake mix combination and mix it with 2 Tablespoons of water in a small microwave-safe container. Microwave on high for 1 minute, and you have
your own instant individual little cake!
KEEP remaining cake mixture stored in the ziploc bag and use whenever you feel like a treat! You can top each cake with a dollop of fat free whipped topping and/or some fresh fruit.
Helpful Tips:
This recipe is called 3, 2, 1 Cake because all you need to remember is
"3 tablespoons mix, 2 tablespoons water, 1 minute in the microwave!"
TRY various flavors of cake mix like carrot, red velvet, pineapple, lemon, orange, etc. Just remember that one of the mixes has to be the angel food mix; the other is your choice.
The flavor possibilities are endless!
NOTES:
The best thing is, you open both cake mixes into a gallon storage bag, one that 'zip locks' or 'self-seals', or a container that seals tightly, shake the two cake mixes to blend and then make the recipe. Storage of mix is simple, put it on a shelf. No need to refrigerate, since the mix is dry. Always remember, that one of the cake mixes MUST be Angel Food. The other can be any flavor. The Angel Food is the cake mix that has the egg whites in it. So, if, anyone is allergic to egg whites, DO NOT serve this recipe.
Camera Tripods
Posted by clare3
We just had a late family Christmas at my granddaughter's home. And of course, anytime the family gets together, out some all the cameras. However, if you want to get a picture of the whole family, you have to do it so that even the one taking the picture gets into the photo. That is where camera tripods are definitely needed. In shopping for a new one, checking out the Internet is a good place to start. You can find great prices on any size, height, weight tripod you need. Labels: camera tripods, family photos
9 Days Left in January
Posted by clare3
We are so lucky that there are only 9 days left in January. It always seems like the longest, coldest, snowy month of the year. But not this year. It was pretty decent with no snow up until now. Winter has now set in and we have plenty to shovel. It seems like every morning I have to shovel my way across the deck to get the newspaper. Then sometimes I have to shovel multiple times a day because it builds up in front of the door. One thing about it, we are this much closer to Spring. Yay!! Labels: clearing the snow, January
Now It Won't Quit Snowing
Posted by clare3
We have been blessed with a wonderful winter up until now. It was bound to happen because we live in Iowa, the land of snow and ice and wind in the winter. We had almost 2 and a half months of wonderful winter weather with lots of sun, mild temperatures and we could go anywhere we wanted to any time. Now we are buried in snow and have had to shovel out several times. We got freezing rain last night and when I went to get the mail, under the snow was ice and had to be very careful getting out of the car. I was glad to be back home again, safe and sound. Play Guitar
Posted by clare3
Playing the guitar can be a great deal of fun. Our grandson decided to teach himself how to play guitar and he did a pretty good job of it. Then my husband thought he would like to learn to play the guitar also. I bought him one for his birthday but he did not know where to start. I checked out the Internet and found out it was not as hard as you might think. There were all kinds of lessons beginning with Beginners and then working into the various types of music. It was amazing to see what he could learn. Perhaps you have wanted to learn to play the guitar also. It is fun to be able to play an instrument with others or just for your own enjoyment or the enjoyment of your family. Labels: beginner lessons, play guitar, song guitar lessons
Mexican Lasagna
Posted by clare3
I don't know where I got the recipe but it is the greatest. You use tortillas to line the 9 x 13 pan. You cook up the meat with spices, onion, stewed tomatoes, tomato sauce and I have some special Mexican spices I added to it. It smells so good when it is simmering on the stove. The you put half of the meat mixture over the tortillas and spread shredded cheese all over it. Then you put down another layer of tortillas and the rest of the meat mixture. I cover it and put it in the refrigerator overnight and the house and the refrigerator smell wonderful. Letting it sit overnight gives the juices a chance to soak into the tortillas and you would think you used lasagna noodles. Truly, you can't tell the difference. Once it is hot in the oven, you sprinkle the rest of shredded cheese over the top and just long enough to melt the cheese and serve it. Yum! Wind Warning
Posted by clare3
Once again, we have a high wind warning for today and tomorrow. It all started out as a warning that we were to get our first snowfall of 2012 today. We would get maybe an inch of snow. We have no snow on the ground at all which is highly unusual. Last night they said maybe an inch of snow or less and now this morning it sounds like high winds and maybe we might see a flurry. It is the most unusual year. We broke 1929 records for the high for the day yesterday. It was 52 degrees. We love it!!! Labels: High Winds, January, no snow
Making friends in a new place
Posted by clare3
Post contributed by Hilton Miranda Labels: Friends, moving, Wild Blue satellite internet
I just moved to a complete new city in a completely new state. I didn’t realize how hard it was going to be to get settled in and start enjoying things. The boxes in my apartment are finally all unpacked. After days of searching, I finally found the one with all the computer stuff. I don’t know how people can live without Wild Blue satellite internet because I can hardly go a day or two without it. I have been able to find several good bars where I hope to meet some people. However, I have also found some different book clubs and writing clubs that should also help. I have never had to try so hard to make friends. I always lived in the same state and in the same city. The couple times I moved were just within the city. All my friends remained the same and it was easy. Now, I have to join clubs and search for cool bars with the hopes of making friends. I feel a little pathetic, but at least I am making an effort.
Best Christmas in January
Posted by clare3
We had one of the best Christmas get togethers with our family Saturday. It was so much fun. I think it was partly because no one had to rush around wrapping gifts, last minute decorating or things like that. Everyone just came and ate and played games. Everyone got a chance to hold the new baby too. It was such a beautiful, warm, snow free day, many went outside for awhile. Golfers were golfing and could be seen from the house. I think Christmas in January was great. Labels: Christmas in January, golfing, no snow
Wireless Headphones
Posted by clare3
If you don't have a pair of wireless headphones, I would check out the Internet for the best buys. I have a pair so that I can play my Yamaha Organ just as loud as I want and it doesn't bother the rest of the family. There is such a great choice of wireless headphones and at great prices as well. Perhaps you have had yours for awhile and they aren't in very good shape. Now may be the time to get that new pair you have been wanting so bad. Labels: check Internet, wireless headphones
Wedding Plans
Posted by clare3
My grandson and his fiance are busily making wedding plans for next summer. They have been having some engagement pictures taken too. They have found a very exciting place in which to be married. It will involve a neat trip and I am looking forward to it. It has been many years since I have been to the mountains so really am excited about it. Fun in the Tub
Posted by clare3
Who has more fun in the tub but the little kids. They love to take their toys into the tub to play with. I think a bath is more like play to them than the actual purpose of getting them clean. I bet the whole bathroom is washed down too. I know our kids loved to splash and splash and I used to get a shower from them while giving them a bath.
