We have 4 married children and we all have born again Christian homes, for which I am very thankful. We are delighted to see this passed down from generation to generation. I am a people person and love visiting, and helping them too, in any way I can. I love a good cup of hot tea with friends, neighbors, or family. Bicycles are certainly great exercise for both kids and adults. The kids next door all have bikes and ride them to the swimming pool. Inbetween, they are riding them all around our cul de sac driveway where there is plenty of safe room to ride. The little 3 year old now has he training wheels on her pretty pink bike and is having a ball with her older siblings and neighbor girls. It is so good to see kids playing outdoors getting lots of fresh air and sunshine.

76 Trombones

Everyone has heard the song "76 Trombones" from Meredith Wilson's "The Music Man". Well, Saturday, we went to see the "Music City Square" in "River City", well known to us as the local town of Mason City, Iowa. It is very unique and an exact duplicate from the Warner Brothers movie lot. They had to get a patent and many legal approvals in order to build it there but it was well worth it. His original house is next to it too where Wilson grew up and they give daily tours all week long. The gift shop and ice cream parlor were open and we had the most delicious ice cream. Many wedding receptions are held there as they have a huge lovely room for them. They were delivering cakes for a reception the night we were there.
It is funny how you don't visit places right next to you sometimes but will drive hundreds of miles or fly to other destinations when you have some very interesting places right in your own home town. We took visiting family to see it and glad we did.
Swimming Pool

We have 4 kids next door and the littlest one is 3. They have set up a little pool for her to play in and come and get our hose to fill it since the hookup is closer than theirs. The landlord pays for all the water around here so it doesn't matter which house it comes from. The parents haul out a lot of hot water along with the cold water from the hose so it won't be so terribly cold at first. Later the sun warms it up every day but they do change the water frequently. Replacement Knee Problems

I have been having a lot of pain at night with my left knee replacement. Sometimes I am unable to stand on it at first when I get up. So I decided to have it x-rayed again this year on schedule and see what is going on. It would seem that my thigh bone is wearing away along side the upper replacement part, leaving a small gap on either side. It was decided to have more tests and see if the replacement knee part has become loose. I decided this was a very good idea. Labels: replacement knee parts, x-rays

Angel Food Cake

Have you ever had a real homemade angel food cake that didn't come out of a box? If not, you have not really tasted the best angel food cake. Our good friend, Donna, brought me a half size homemade decorated angel food cake for my birthday. It is just delicious. Not only that, but she brought a flat box filled with decorated cookies that looked like beautiful flowers. Her cookies are so very good also. She does this as part of her living. She also brought many fresh vegetables out of her garden, potatoes, carrots, onions, beets, summer squash and a green pepper and several banana peppers. She is such a sweet lady. Cancer

Cancer strikes all ages of people everywhere. It is a sneaky disease in that you can have it and not know it. However, some cancers give you symptoms much like indigestion and that is what happened to my husband. He had so much discomfort after eating and inbetween meals that he finally got so he could only finish half his meal. Upon seeing the doctor and losing some weight he had a colonoscopy and they found a large tumor. It hadn't broken through the colon wall and had not spread so he is very blessed not to have chemo follow up or radiation. If you are due for a colonoscopy, don't put it off. It may save your life. Is it July Yet?

Is it July yet? We are beginning to wonder since the nights have been in the low 50's and the days in the 70's. It is starting to warm up a little bit. The sun has been out about 1/3 of the afternoon but about noon it was raining a little. I went to the store and had to use the windshield wipers. Then got home and the sun came out. We usually have the air conditioning running for weeks by now but it is getting a good rest this year.
Dinner Delights

I don't have to cook tonight. We have been having pork chops, hamburgers, ribs and sweet corn for days now and now it is my turn to let someone cook for me. So we are going out for pizza, broasted chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, chicken fingers, lots of salads with all the extras and plenty of cold pop to drink. Family Vacation

Boy do I need a vacation and I was just reading about the white sand beaches of the Riviera Maya. Doesn't that sound amazing to you and wonderful? We are way overdue for a family vacation. I would like to lie on the beach and let the kids play and listen to the sound of the gentle waves lapping up against the shore and just let the stress melt away. There are certainly a great deal of differences in hospitals. I believe we have one of the finest in our area. For that we are indeed very blessed. They have been numbered among the top 100 in the United States now for several years. They have expanded their heart unit and have some of the finest heart doctors around. Bone Scan

I had a bone scan the other day. The hospital just called to see how my experience went with their department. I have to say everyone was very pleasant and helpful. I did not have to wait long and in fact, my appointments ran a little earlier in each instance. That is always nice. The first thing you do is have an injection of something to make your bones light up on the scan. Then you have 2 hours to go eat out or shop or whatever and return for the scan. They slice you through the scan very slowly and it only takes about 20 minutes. I will get the results next week.

Lawn Mowing

I mowed the lawn the other day while my husband was taking a nap and surprised him. However, my lawn mower is about 17 years old and we noticed the smell of gasoline after I was finished. My old, dependable mower has sprung a leak. It is a full-time mulcher mower and just my speed.
At first we thought it was the hose that takes the gas from the tank to the motor as it was so old. My husband got a new one at the hardware store and it was quite a job to replace but he got it done. But, horrors, there was still a gas leak and you could see a slow drip. After taking apart the filter and checking the hose again to be sure that wasn't the problem, he discovered the tank has a tiny leak along one side.
We don't have a very big lawn, so it is hardly worth shopping for another mower as we bought a self-propelled 2 years ago and it works good. However, I am short and I just can't keep up with it so looks like he is going to have to do the mowing from now on. I don't think my mower is worth taking to a repairman. Our lawn isn't very big. When he can't do it, we'll hire someone to do it for us.

Family Visit

We are going to have family company from Wisconsin end of next week and over the weekend. We plan to go see a new War Memorial honoring my husband and his brothers in two of the wars. Also plan to go see 2 of their sisters and one brother-in-law that are in two different nursing homes. Labels: Family
The family is really aging and dropping off now almost one a year. Sisters are going to be 91, 89 and 86 by the end of the year and the brothers will be 82 and 76. They lost a brother in March and the family is shrinking. We are looking forward to their visit and will go a number of places and see many things while they are here. We usually make a trip to Wisconsin every year or every other year, but I don't think we will be doing that this year.

Two Accused of Cooking Cocaine Dealer's Body

I could hardly believe what I was reading. They say a high school football coach and another man killed a cocaine dealer to avoid paying a debt. One of the men shot him in the back with a .357 caliber pistol as he owed the man $70,000 from drug deals. He decided to kill him rather than pay him. Evidence was collected from the concrete plant and both men were ordered to be held without bail. Their hearing comes up July 7.
