About Me
We have 4 married children and we all have born again Christian homes, for which I am very thankful. We are delighted to see this passed down from generation to generation. I am a people person and love visiting, and helping them too, in any way I can. I love a good cup of hot tea with friends, neighbors, or family. And now blogging has become my latest passion, many thanks to a wonderful grandson. May you all find the joy, peace and happiness in our Lord Jesus Christ that I have found.
Sports, Basketball, Golf
Posted by clare3
My husband just loves pro basketball and every Saturday is taken up with any and every game that is on television. After church on Sunday, he starts right in watching every game available until they go off at night. He watches them through lunch and dinner too. Sometimes he has a headache on Monday and I tell him it is from too much staring at the television set. But then, I would rather have him doing that instead of going out with the "boys" and drinking or some such thing. Our sons and grandsons are big into watching sports too. Several are golfers so they love to watch them play on TV. Now that the football season is over, my husband is looking forward to when it starts again in Fall. I love my own programs, so I don't mind at all. Labels: Basketball, Golf, Sports

Nichole Richie is Expecting Second Baby
Posted by clare3
Actress Nichole Richie and rocker Joel Madden's first child, Harlow, is 13 months old. Now the couple has already announced they are expecting a second baby. Madden wrote the following on the Web site of his band, Good Charlotte "What's better than winning an Oscar? I am so happy to tell everyone that Harlow is going to be a big sister!" "God has truly blessed my family." Labels: 2nd baby coming, Joel Madden, Nichole Richie
Our 5 children were all born within 5 years, the last two being a set of twins and I am so glad we had them close together and while we were young because we were still young when they got out on their own. We were also young grandparents and have lived to see our great grandchildren growing up. It is really neat.

Thunder only Happens When it's Raining
Posted by clare3
Remember those words to an old song? I heard it the other night playing in a restaurant we were dining in. But you know thunder not only happens when it is raining but have you ever heard of thunder snow? Well we had that too. It must be a kin to ice fog. I had never heard of that either until a motorhome driver told me he was in fog that was like little cutting bits of ice on his way driving up to Alaska. Well we had thunder and sleet and a bit of snow too. You just never know for sure what you are going to get in the Midwest but you can count on one thing. Wait a day and the weather will change. Thunder in the Winter
Posted by clare3
That is what we had yesterday. We had all kinds of thunder and lightning and one house was even struck by lightning. Ou little dog, Holly, was really scared and she paced the house panting. It just poured and poured rain. They say for every inch of rain it is 12 inches of snow so we escaped quite a lot of snow. Then it began to sleet and froze solid on everything. You can hardly walk in places, it is so slick. We were to get some snow today but it went south of us. Good place as it will melt faster there. Labels: February, lightni rain, Thunder, weather

Shark Attacks
Posted by clare3
Is it safe to go into the water now? It seemed like there for a while, we were seeing on television and hearing about quite a few shark attacks. According to the news though, shark attacks dipped to the lowest level in five years in 2008. The reason, though, could be that people just didn't have the money for as many vacations due to the ailing economy and it kept vacationers away from the beaches. Labels: Shark attacks
Last year there were 71 shark attacks and in 2008 there were 59 around the world. They have an International Shark Attack File at the University of Florida's Museum of Natural History to keep track of them. I can remember hearing of a shark attack somewhere along a California beach last year and that was quite unusual. Sharks are often seen in the Gulf of Mexico. That would keep me on the beach. That's for sure.

What a joy grandchildren are. It is so much fun to watch them grow and mature. They learn everything so quickly. Little Kaelyn is learning just about one word a day now, her mother says. She will be talking a blue streak before long. Now she is busy discovering many different things.
She went to visit her Grammy last week and her Grammy got out her bubble blower and blew bubbles. It wasn't long and Kaelyn could say "bubbles" and she got the most fun out of them. I am sure she just looked at them in amazement at first but then she tried to run and catch them. It had to be fun to watch. Thanks to the Internet we could get a glimpse of her and her bubbles.
Wild Weather Report
Posted by clare3
Well, here we sit again, waiting for the shoe to drop, so to speak. They have been threatening us for days about a Winter Storm Warning. So far we have gotten quite a little rain around noon that froze to the ground. Then it turned to sleet and made everything look white again. Labels: snow, weather, Winter storm warning
We are supposed to get 1 to 2 inches of new snow anytime now and it is very cloudy. But nothing is happening yet. We had all kinds of thunder and lightning which is really unusual for us at this time of the year. We usually have that during a January thaw sometime in January. But it seems it came a month late this time. Does that mean Spring is going to be a month later too and warmer weather won't show up until later this year? Anything is possible here. We may see that snow overnight tonight and then the wind is really supposed to blow. We have to travel about 25 miles about noon so hope it is good weather by then.
Breast Cancer?
Posted by clare3
This woman was arrested for collecting donations of sick leave and money from co-workers. She lied for five years about having breast cancer and was arrested last Thursday on eight counts of theft and one count of forgery. Breast cancer, itself, is such a horrible illness for women to go through and most people are more than willing to help those who really have it. I think it is terrible how she played on the sympathies of her co-workers and duped them out of money. Labels: Breast Cancer, fraud, woman arrested
It was discovered also that Keele Maynor, age 38, also received support from local cancer groups. They were very surprised to learn she was not receiving treatment. Each of the most serious allegations carries a penalty up to 60 years in prison. She deserves to be put away for a long time in my opinion.
Afghan Civilian Deaths Rose 40% in 2008
Posted by clare3
According to the U.N., the number of civilians killed in Afghanistan's worsening conflict jumped 40 percent to a new high last year. More than half of those deaths were inflicted by Taliban insurgents and other Militants. In the meantime, back in Washington, D.C., President Barack Obama said in a statement that he is sending additional U.S. troops into Afghanistan to battle insurgent threats and crumbling security along the Pakistan border. Labels: Afghan civilian deaths, Current Events
Congressional officials say an estimated 17,000 troops will go in the coming months to join 33,000 already in the fight. According to the U.N. report, insurgents are increasingly using roadside bombs, car bombs and suicide bombers in attacks that are undertaken regardless of the impact on civilians. Five civilians were killed by a roadside bomb in the latest such attack.
A February suicide bombing at a dog fight in Kandahar was one of the worst civilian tolls and killed 67 civilians and another car bombing at the Indian Embassy last July killed 55 civilians. The problem is that insurgents are killing the biggest percentage of civilians but the military troops are being blamed. President Hamid Karzai has been getting increasingly angry demands that U.S. troops avoid killing ordinary Afghans. He says that the civilian deaths are undermining support for the anti-Taliban fight but what many people don't seem to get through their heads, is that war kills everyone - civilians are not exempt.

Electric Blankets
Posted by clare3
Did you realize that an electric blanket is an energy efficient option on these cold winter days. You can turn down your thermostat 10 degrees lower at night and save significantly on your bill. Even setting your thermostat 5 degrees will save you quite a bit. If you have a programmable thermostat, you can set it to drop the temperature about 15 minutes before you go to bed. Then you can have it go on just a bit before you usually wake up in the morning. Labels: Electric blankets, energy efficient
Also getting a good electric blanket is an energy efficient way to stay warm and comfortable all night and save because they use very little electricity. A twin or full-size electric blanket uses only about as much as a 100 watt light bulb. There are also several types of electric blankets and for king and queen size beds you want one with dual controls. One is even a comforter so you can choose the one that fits you best.
Another option is the electric mattress pad that warms you from underneath. You can also get a foot warmer pad or a throw and these use less than 60 watts of electricity. I always sleep better in cooler air at night than a warm room.

C S I and Good Television Shows
Posted by clare3
I just love all the CSI television shows. I tape them and watch them while I work on the computer. It helps pass the time and I think they are some of the best shows on television today. I like all three of them: CSI Miami, CSI, and CSI New York. They all have a great cast of actors and make things seem so real. Labels: Cold Cases, CSI, Law and Order, Lifetime movies
I also like the Law and Order shows and anything having to do with the Police. I love to watch them solve the cases. Cold Cases is another favorite as they solve cases that have been given up on and filed away. There are a lot of good shows on along with many Lifetime movies too.
Vacations
Posted by clare3
Our daughter and son-in-law are vacationing in Daytona Beach, Florida. Doesn't that sound great if you live in a cold state such as ours. We are looking for the next snow storm and I told them to bring back lots of sunshine and heat. It isn't quite so cold today but cold enough. I am sure they are having a lovely time on the warm beach and seeing all kinds of sights. It would sure be fun to stow away in their van and be down there too and away from this cold weather.

Weather Reports
Posted by clare3
You can never be sure about the weather reports. They said we would get rain, then a mix of freezing rain and then snow. We were to get about 1-2 inches of snow overnight and we didn't. I am not complaining as we have had enough snow to last us for the rest of the winter.
There are still huge piles of snow to melt away yet. It does help that some melted from time to time so there wasn't so much flooding. I had to run to the store just now and it is now snowing and the wind is really blowing hard. If we had a lot of new snow on the ground, we would have a regular blizzard. We can hardly wait for Spring to come and get rid of this cold and snowy weather.

Doctor Visits
Posted by clare3
It is a good idea to have a good checkup every 6 months. I need to keep track of my blood pressure most of all. It is always good but it is still a good idea to have it checked. I will have a fasting blood test in the morning. Labels: doctor visit, Health
I have great cholesterol that I apparently inherited from my parents. I also have great triglycerides as well. I also have a bone density test annually and this past fall got a Reclast injection for osteoporosis. If you do not have good health, nothing else matters.
I believe it is very important to have regular checkups. I will see the doctor next week and she will give me all the statistics on my blood test at that time. I am anxious to see how it goes since I have not been there since August. If you haven't had a good checkup in a long time or ever, maybe you should give it some serious thought.
Volcanoes, National Parks, Alaska
Posted by clare3
I have been hearing quite a bit on the news about a big Volcano that can erupt in Alaska at any time and would do horrendous damage. There is another in the state of Washington that sounds like it could blow too. But worst of all is the one that Yellowstone Park is sitting on. There are earthquakes daily and they are really getting frightened that this one may go off. If it does, it could do a lot of damage to the whole United States. Labels: Alaska, Current Events, Earthquakes, NYC, USA, Volcanoes
The New Madrid quake area is shaking quite a bit too and has been felt for miles when it starts up. I saw a map once that showed the entire United States is just one big fault line all connected together all through all the states. And last I heard they were talking about the big fault line under New York City. Any one of these could be quite a serious disaster and there is really nothing we can do about them. California has been shaking for some time now and they expect a big one at any time there too. Think about it. Scary isn't it?

Rocking Chairs

Labels: Family, fun, grandchildren
Oh, to sit in the rocking chair and just relax and have a relaxing time. However, when you get a little child into one and they like it, it is so much fun to see them laugh. Here you will see our little great granddaughter having the time of her life, rocking in the rocking chair. Everyone should have this much fun, shouldn't they? Oh, to be a kid again and enjoy the simple things of life.
She is growing up so fast and is picking up new words all the time. What I also think is neat is that her Mom is teaching her sign language too. It is amazing how fast she picks it up. She is saying lots of words now for her age. I know she keeps her Mom pretty busy these days because she is pretty fast and get where she wants to go in no time at all. Such fun. I couldn't keep up with her anymore :0)
Gangrene and/or Amputation
Posted by clare3
Our brother-in-law has been in the hospital for a week now and they told him Saturday he had no circulation in his leg from the knee down. Also told him he had gangrene and would be dead in a month or two. What a shock! But also wrong. His own doctor came in and said he does have circulation in his leg but in further testing found there was no circulation in his foot. He has been moved to west campus where they have the physical therapists. Labels: amputation, death, Gangrene, life
It sounds like he could possibly get gangrene at any time and will have to have his foot amputated unless God heals him through all our prayers. He would have to go to the Mayo Clinic to have it done as they don't have the doctors here to do it. We don't know what will happen then, whether he will be able to go home or will have to go to a nursing home.
It is really something how you can be going along working, eating out and enjoying life and something hits you like this and it brings a complete halt to life as you know it. That is when you really need to be strong in your belief in God and be ready to meet him at any time in Heaven. For that matter, no matter how old or young you are, you need to be ready to die because it is inevitable. You cannot escape death.
Family Time
Posted by clare3
Today we went to church and had a wonderful Praise and Worship time. But before that we were Greeters today so get to greet alot of the families with children where we were. Then we all greet each other in church and then have a good teaching by our Pastor. After church our daughter and her husband came and we all went out to lunch together. We went to the Pizza Ranch that is always good. They were very busy which is really good in these bad economic times. It is always good to have a great visit with family. They went on to visit an uncle who is in the hospital and then to see our grandson in college.
It is a beautiful sunny day and a lot of the snow is melting and the huge piles are finally going down some. It makes huge puddles and small lakes all over the roads, walks and driveways. It is quite a bit warmer though which is great. We can finally see a few patches of grass here and there. It is still a month before Spring officially begins. We will sure be glad when it is warm again.
Divers Find Wreck of HMS Victory
Posted by clare3
Deep sea explorers who found $500 million in sunken treasure two years ago, say they have discovered another prized shipwreck. It is a legendary British man-of-war that sank in the English Channel 264 years ago. It is the wreckage of the HMS Victory, found below about 330 feet of water, and may carry an even bigger jackpot. Labels: Current Events, English Channel, Sunken treasure
Research indicated the ship was carrying 4 tons of gold coins when it sank in a storm. So far, two brass cannons have been recovered from the wreck. Thirty-one brass cannons and other evidence on the wreck allowed definitive identification of the 175 foot sailing ship. It was separated from its fleet and sank in the English Channel on Oct. 4, 1744, with at least 900 men aboard. The ship was the largest and with 110 brass cannons, it was the most heavily armed vessel of its day. It was the inspiration for the HMS Victory famously commanded by Adm. Horatio Nelson decades later.
Telemedicine Life Size Video Conferencing
Posted by clare3
Video conferencing is used in a great many countries throughout the world. Now, this company has developed high definition video conferencing which is so much more clear, just as your new television sets. Labels: environmentally friendly, HD video conferencing, lifesize.com
It has a highly desirable use in Telemedicine.
The company who developed this video conferencing technology is highly committed to being an environmentally friendly company. In today's world, business people of all types fly all over to get together to put their ideas to work. With online video conferencing, they would no longer have to do this, thus cutting down the carbon footprint by helping to reduce air flights. Along with that, with economic conditions being the way they are, expenses of travel can be greatly cut, perhaps even meaning the difference as to whether a company stays open or not.
The benefits of HD video conferencing are many. Experts from all over the country can get online and see each other clearly and discuss the problems of the patient. The patient can be in another room and be seen by them, as well on a separate screen. They can also watch the surgeries. This mean better health care for the patients as specialists are easy to reach over the high definition video conferencing. They don't have to travel long distances to see those specialists.
Oil Prices Fall
Posted by clare3
Thursday, oil prices dropped as layoffs spread. Orders for big ticket manufactured goods evaporated and the United States homebuilding industry posted its worst annual sales in more than two decades. We have been hearing quite a bit lately about home building dropping off, along with the sales of all homes. Many have bought big newer homes and now can't sell their older home. Labels: Current Events, homebuilding drops, Oil Prices
A worsening recession has cut severely into energy spending, pushing prices near five year lows. Light, sweet crude for March delivery fell 72 cents to settle at $41.44 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It has been great to see gasoline going for less than $2 in our area. Traffic numbers are down but seem to be picking up again. I know with the high prices that gasoline reached, we cut back on our driving too.

Scientists Unlock Secret of Locust Swarming
Posted by clare3
A brain chemical that can affect people's moods can also transform easygoing desert locusts into terrifying swarms that ravage the countryside according to scientists reports. They said the locust is a solitary and lonely creature but if you give them a little serotonin they go and turn into a swarm.
Serotonin has been linked to mood in people. Under certain conditions, locusts triple the amount of serotonin in their systems and it changes the insects from loners to packs. These packs can be devastating. They affect 20 percent of the Earth's land. Last year a swarm nearly four miles long plagued Australia. They also occur in Africa and Asia and have affected the western United States. Interesting, don't you think?
