About Me
We have 4 married children and we all have born again Christian homes, for which I am very thankful. We are delighted to see this passed down from generation to generation. I am a people person and love visiting, and helping them too, in any way I can. I love a good cup of hot tea with friends, neighbors, or family. And now blogging has become my latest passion, many thanks to a wonderful grandson. May you all find the joy, peace and happiness in our Lord Jesus Christ that I have found.
New Mexican Restaurant in Town
Posted by clare3
Finally, we have a new Mexican restaurant in town. I hope it is a huge success. They have experience all over the United States and the owner was a chef in Washington. His daughter runs a Mexican restaurant in the town where our oldest son lives with his family. Labels: Cooking, exciting, just opened, Mexican restaurant
They are going to be open 24/7 with lunch specials and dinner specials and everything inbetween. I sure hope we like it, because we would be ones to patronize their restaurant on a regular basis. Right now we have to travel to other towns to get good Mexican food. They just opened up and I am anxious to go there and try out the food. They even have a number of great desserts such as sopillas, churos, and flan which are all good. It is a great addition to our town as we have very little choice here except for fast foods.
Family Fun and Christmas
Posted by clare3

This is just a small part of our family. We had a great time for Christmas on Saturday. Lots of good food was prepared by all. I think it is lots more fun to have a potluck than to have one main dish such a turkey or ham. We did that for years and now we have done the pot luck for a number of years and it has been great. The young gals make all the cookies, candies and goodies too. We all eat too much and who cares. We will be back to normal eating this week.
The weather cooperated too. It was cold but at least it didn't snow or have any freezing rain. The roads were really great for travel too. It was so much fun to see the little great grandkids as they are walking and starting to walk now and starting to talk a few words too. Emry can make all kinds of faces. It is so funny.
Persimmon Trees
Posted by clare3
For a wonderful fruit bearing tree, you should take a look at the Persimmon trees at this website. Their Japanese trees can bear as much as a hundred pounds of fruit a year. Imagine having your own tree producing fruit the size of grapefruit and are so nice and sweet when ripe. If you order the right tree you can have fruit by October and it will still be ripe and fresh by Christmas. Check out the several varieties they have to find the ones best suited to you. They produce beautiful fruit. Labels: beautiful, persimmon trees, produce much fruit
Christmas Dinner
Posted by clare3
We had a fabulous Christmas dinner today with lots of desserts and treat. The kids took tons of pictures and we will enjoy seeing them in the future. Our two little great grandchildren are so cute but if it would be strange if we didn't think so. Emry can make the funniest faces and Kaelyn is all girl and can crawl about as fast as Emry can walk. We are anxious to see the videos their parents made when they first saw each other. Labels: Bad Weather, Family, grandchildren, Holiday
We have the best kids. They really surprised us and grandchildren too, with gifts that left us speechless. It is wonderful to see your family grow up into such wonderful Christians and have Christian homes. Nothing can beat that. I don't think I will want anything else to eat until tomorrow. Everything was soooo good.
We had 40 degree weather too yesterday and it melted the snow way down and the highways dried off for good driving and then the temperatures dropped for today so it got rid of the fog and that was really great as some come from a long ways and it is quite hard to drive home at night for several hours in fog. We were blessed with a nice clear day today and good highways. It is about 19. Probably colder now that the sun is down.
Sale
Posted by clare3
Now is the time to be looking for a sale and we all know that this is the time to save some real money. Check out their after Christmas sales and they have a new video out with Howie Mandel that is just hillarious. He demonstrates to a potential customer just how fast you can get what you want from this company. I really enjoyed the video and I am going to recommend to all my family to check in to this sale for everything they wanted for Christmas and didn't get and save money too. Christmas Thoughts
Posted by clare3
Christmas is for children. It used to be so much fun to pile the presents under the tree for our five kids to open on Christmas morning. They were so excited. Some of the gifts were just socks, underwear, pajamas and clothes but there would be games too and as they got older, bikes. But it didn't matter how simple the gift, they were so excited to open everything and it was so much fun to watch them. Labels: Anniversary Family, Cooking, grandchildren, Holidays, Internet
Now we are in that time of life where Christmas is just another day. The tree has shrunk. There are no presents under the tree because we buy what we need throughout the year. It just isn't fun without the little ones opening gifts and seeing the delight in their eyes.
Tomorrow we will have a wonderful dinner made up of everyone's specialties and believe me, they know how to make some good food. I have mine all ready to go. Worked in the kitchen the better part of the day and my back hurts and it reminds me why we don't have the big meal at our home anymore. It is just too much work for us "old" folks. But everyone was really good to clean up after the meal and we would play some games too.
No, it isn't really fun being the 4th generation, although we will get to see two of our cute little great grandkids and that will be a highlight of the day for sure. We have watched them grow up on videos on email and blogs and Facebook. The wonder of Technology.
Prostate Cancer
Posted by clare3
Prostate Cancer is nothing to mess with. A normal PSA blood test for prostate health is between 0 - 4. My husband's went to over 6 and he had to have 42 radiation treatments. That was over 8 years ago and now his PSA has risen to 16.2 which is not good. We went to the urologist today and they give a hormone shot just under the skin of the abdomen that slows the growth of the cancer cells right down. He goes back again in 3 months for another blood test and hormone shot. His brother has had very good results from taking them for over 10 years but now his has started to rise and he will go on something new - a pill. Labels: Health, hormone shots, prostate cancer, PSA tests
They say if they could autopsy every man over 80, they would find prostate cancer in almost all of them. But prostate cancer is slow growing that something else will cause their death before the cancer. Generally, they die of old age, heart attack or something else. It is good for every man over 50 to have a PSA blood test because if it is elevated at a young age, then they generally have to do surgery to stop it.
Sing Along with Elvis?
Posted by clare3
Do you love singing by yourself, but don't feel good enough to sing in public? Embarrassed to sing at parties, etc? Now is your chance to get a recording and send it to your friends via email that you can send in a free Christmas e-card of you singing along with Elvis and Martina McBride. You can do this in private without anyone looking on. Labels: Christmas recording, Elvis Presley, Holidays
No kidding, I am serious. All you have to do is go to this Sony BMG Music Entertainment website, that they created, that allows you to record "Blue Christmas" as a duet with Elvis Presley, singing McBride's part from the album. The site is at www.singwiththeking.com, and it provides you with a phone number and an access code. Then you can sing out your lines over the telephone and if you are pleased with the recording, then you can send it in the free Christmas e-card. Check it out, it sounds like fun. This is a promotion for "Elvis Presley Christmas Duets" created by Sony.
Blizzard Warnings for the Second Day
Posted by clare3
We have really got the snow. They don't know where to pile it anymore. Like my son said once, it looks like the Moon, everything is white. The neighbor kids think it is wonderful though. They slide down the piles of snow on the seat of their pants, it is so high, and just have a ball on it. Labels: Blizzard Warnings, Sub-zero cold, weather
You have to be very careful though not to stay out more than 20 minutes or you will get frostbite for sure. The wind is blowing the coldest air out of the Northwest and drifting in the country so the visibility is zero in lots of places. Our Sunday paper was here on time this morning and I really don't know how the carrier did it. So many roads were closed last night already. It sounds like it is going to run into tomorrow too yet.
We need to go out of town on Tuesday so surely hope the wind has died down and the snow doesn't return that day. We couldn't go to church today due to both the severe cold and visibility. It was not a nice day, but a good day to stay in where it is warm and relax.
China On the Fast Track to Obesity
Posted by clare3
Obesity has become as bad in China as it is in the United States and Europe. But the Chinese government is not taking this crisis as serious as it should be. They have not considered how debilitating the huge proportion of people with diabetes and hypertension is going to be on the next generation. The once slim Chinese nation is now on the fast track to a U.S. style obesity crisis. Labels: China, Health, serious obesity, U.S.
About 30 percent of all Chinese adults are overweight. Public campaigns to fight China's expanding weight problem are hindered by the nation's newfound prosperity. It doesn't help to tell the people not to eat hamburgers and other high calorie foods because now they have money and they can buy them and they want to eat what they want. The Amin Fat Reduction Hospital is China's top weight loss center and Americans are going there to lose weight. One man who is there started at 646 pounds and he has lost 250 pounds and wants to go home at 220 pounds, a shadow of his former self. It is learned that 6 million to 10 million adult Chinese become obese each year. Everyone needs to get off their couches and get moving and eat more healthy foods.
Magnetic Bracelets

Labels: Health, Magnetic Bracelets, Relieve Pain
A friend of mine has a magnetic bracelet and she was telling me how much it had helped her arthritis pain. I didn't realize that there are 200 million people worldwide wearing such bracelets to alleviate all kinds of pain.
Magnetic therapy has even been known to relieve fibromyalgia and this is something my sister suffers from. I have told her about the bracelet I received and how much it has relieved my aching and she is anxious to get one and see how it works for her. That many people can't be wrong about using magnetic bracelets for pain relief.
I have found since I have been wearing my magnetic bracelet that I sleep much more soundly and wake up so much more rested than before. These bracelets can be used for things you wouldn't have thought of before such as tendonitis and carpal tunnel. I wish I had known about them sooner.

Posting on blogs is a great deal of fun. You can write about any subject that is of interest to you. You can also signup with various companies that will pay you to write posts about products. The advertisers know that many people spend hours reading blogs and this is a great way to get their products in front of many people in a short time. Labels: Blogging, Making Money
It would really be interesting to know just how many people make it a habit to check into blogs every day. I am sure it is a large number. I know I try to read some every day and check out the websites and products. Sometimes I stumble onto one that gives me some information I have been looking for elsewhere. But posting for profit, best of all, is a great way to extend your income in a fun way.
Pork Chops and Gravy
Posted by clare3
It is almost time for supper and my husband says he is hungry for mashed potatoes and gravy. So I got pork chops out of the freezer and defrosted them and browned them every so nicely. Then I add some water and let them steam with a lid on for about 20 minutes. I then turn them over and cook the another 20 minutes. Take the out and make gravy of the juice which is golden brown. Add green beans and/or a salad, some hot biscuits and fruit for dessert and you are all set for an easy warm meal.

30 Members of al-Qaida Cell Arrested
Posted by clare3
Iraqi police have arrested 30 members of an al-Qaida cell. This included the alleged mastermind of truck bombings that killed 17 people in the former insurgent stronghold of Fallujah. The alleged leader of the cell, Tariq al-Karbouli, was picked up in the Abu Ghraib area west of Baghdad. The other members of the cell were apprehended in a series of raids that ended early a week ago Tuesday. Labels: al-Qaida cell arrested, Current Events
Two bomb laden trucks exploded at police stations in Fallujah, 40 miles west of Baghdad, killing 17 people and leveling buildings according to Police reports. These were brazen attacks in the most heavily guarded city in Iraq. It raised questions about the ability of Iraqi security forces to ensure security as the United States scales down its combat role under the newly ratified U.S.-Iraqi pact, which calls for an American pullout within three years.

O.J.'s Co-defendents Get Probation
Posted by clare3
After O.J. was sentenced to prison, it was the turn for four men who pleaded guilty to reduced charges in exchange for testifying against O.J. Simpson at his robbery, kidnapping trial. They held a sports memorabilia dealer at gunpoint in a Las Vegas hotel room, and he let out a loud protest when they were sentenced to probation.
Judge Jackie Glass sentenced Michael McClinton to eight year's probation. McClinton, age 50, testified that he supplied two guns and brandished one during the September 13, 2007 confrontation. Bruce Fromong, the sports dealer, said "You've got to be kidding me!." Then Judge Jackie said to get him out of the building. She did not let him address the court before sentencing.
Judge Glass lectured the four defendants but accepted a state recommendation that they serve no prison time. Charles Cashmore got three years probation, Charles Ehrlich got six years probation and Walter Alexander was sentenced to four years probation. They are all very lucky they aren't spending many years in prison like O.J. I think O.J. thought he was untouchable but he found out different. Pride goes before a fall they say and he fell.
Fran Drescher Interested in U.S. Senate Seat
Posted by clare3
That surprised me. I would have never thought that the star of "The Nanny" would want to go from playing nasally New Yawkers to succeeding Hillary Rodham Clinton in the U.S. Senate, would you? I read that publicist Jordan Brown delivered the straight line that Fran is serious about becoming the next junior senator from New York. He cited Drescher's experience as an actress, advocate for women's health and public diplomacy envoy for the U.S. State Department. I didn't know all that either. I guess I just thought of her as a funny, empty headed gal on TV and I was sure wrong about that. Labels: Current Events, Fran Drescher, New York, U.S. Senate seat
So, the 51 year old "Saturday Night Fever" and "This is Spinal Tap" actress joins a field headed by Caroline Kennedy and New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. New York Gov. David Paterson will appoint Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's successor if she is confirmed secretary of state in the Obama administration. The way the news talks and looks now, they are pushing for Caroline Kennedy because of her name recognition. They say she actually has no experience. That doesn't seem fair to me. How many Kennedys do we need in Congress? There could be too many already. Are they taking over? Just a weird thought.
Your Health
Posted by clare3
It is really important to take care of your health. My husband has been complaining of stomach aches for some time now and I could not get him to go to the doctor. Well, he finally got sick enough to have to stay up half the night so we had a busy day today.
First we had to go to our family doctor where they took several blood tests. Then they sent him to the local hospital for an abdominal catscan. That pretty much shot the day. Now we have to wait several days to see what the results of the tests were. Tomorrow he has another doctor appointment to find out the results of his fasting blood test to see how his cholesterol is doing and other things. So tomorrow will be another busy day. It doesn't leave me much time to keep up with my posting but a person's health is more important than anything in life. Without good health, you can't enjoy anything.

United States Prices for Generic Prescription Drugs
Posted by clare3
Did you know that the prices for generic prescription drugs is dropping? I have seen the big ads from Wal-mart advertising generic drugs for $4 each and I guess the other giant chains such as Target and Kmart are getting in on the game too. This is great news for seniors on limited incomes. Sometimes, I have heard, that it comes down to buying the drugs or food and food wins out. This is a detriment to the health of such seniors and a sad situation. Labels: cheaper, generic prescriptions, Health
Generic drug prices have been forced down and it has also forced down dollar sales of generic drugs in the United States by 2.7 percent in the year ending in September. All this while the actual sales of generic prescriptions filled actually increased by 5.4 percent over last year. Everyone is hollaring about the high cost of drugs. Well this is one way to beat them.

Cancer to be Top Global Killer by 2010
Posted by clare3
According to international health experts, in a report released on Tuesday, cancer will overtake heart disease as the world's top killer by 2010. This is part of a trend that should more than double global cancer cases and deaths by 2030. That is a little scary, don't you think? I thought they were making advances in cancer cures. Labels: cancer, Current Events, Health
Rising tobacco use in developing countries is believed to be a huge reason for the shift, particularly in China and India, where 40 percent of the world's smokers now live. Also, better diagnosing of cancer, along with the downward trend in infectious diseases that used to be the world's leading killers, is making a difference.
Cancer diagnoses around the world have steadily been rising and are expected to hit 12 million this year. Global cancer deaths are expected to reach 7 million. This according to the new report by the World Health Organization. An annual rise of 1 percent in cases and deaths is expected, even with larger increases in China, Russia and India. What that means is that new cancer cases will likely mushroom to 27 million annually by 2030, with deaths hitting 17 million.
New Year's Eve - 2009

What would New Year's Eve be in New York without Dick Clark? The two go together when you think of it. I remember when Dick was so sick and missed out on Dick Clark's Rockin' New Years' Eve in New York. It just wasn't quite the same but he has been back again and will be there again this New Years' with some other celebrities helping him perform. Labels: Dick Clark, Holidays, New Years' Eve
Lionel Richie will be on hand, along with the Jonas Brothers and Taylor Swift. They will perform live during the ABC broadcast and I am sure you won't want to miss it. There must be something very exciting about being there in person and watching that big beautiful ball drop at midnight EST. The show is going to begin New Years' Eve at 9 p.m. EST and Kellie Pickler also will be on hand in times Square with live reports. Ryan Seacrest will be co-host to Dick Clark too so tune in if you can. Fergie is going to host the Hollywood party segments and you want to see her. Otherwise, have a great New Years' Eve yourselves. I'll probably be in bed by then, in fact I am sure I will :0)

Holly had Surgery
Posted by clare3
Our little Boston Terrier, Holly, had what they call an eye tumor on the edge of her left eye. We took her to the Veterinary last Tuesday and had it removed. Now she has these great big stitches that stick out at least an inch and it is very tough thread. I have to put antibiotic in her eye twice a day and she is so good about it. It is healing very well and I think we will try and get in on Wednesday to have the stitches out. Labels: Boston Terrier, Holly, Pet, Veterinary
She already looks so much better without that growth by her eye and she used to hit it when she cleaned her face. One day it really bled and that didn't seem good at all. It costs a lot to have surgery for a pet but they are worth it. The older they get, the more you seem to spend on them. She has very good teeth though and for that we are thankful as our last little dog had to have many teeth pulled as he had poor teeth. She is certainly one of the family and acts like she owns the place :0)
U.S. Developing Flying Robots
Posted by clare3
Have you ever wished you could be a fly on the wall at someone's home to see what is going on there? Now the United States is developing flying robots the size of bugs. Can you imagine a robot as small as a fly that could record voices, transmit video and even fire tiny weapons? Sounds like science fiction, doesn't it? Labels: bug sized Robots, Current Events
That kind of James Bond style fantasy is actually on the drawing board. U. S. military engineers are trying to design flying robots disguised as insects that could one day spy on enemies and conduct dangerous missions without risking lives. Sounds great, doesn't it? Remember when a computer filled an entire room, and look at them now. Everything keeps getting smaller and smaller.
They are picturing them as a bunch of them being sent out in a swarm. They think it would fill the void of knowing who the bad guys are in a certain building without sending in men. The research seeks to miniaturize the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle drones used in Iraq and Afghanistan for surveillance and reconnaissance. Pretty neat, huh? The next generation of drones, called Micro Aerial Vehicles, or MAV's, could be as tiny as bumblebees and capable of flying undetected into buildings, where they could photograph, record and even attack insurgents and terrorists.
They plan to start developing a bird sized robot as soon as 2015, followed by the insect sized models by 2030. They could be useful on battlefields where the biggest challenge is collecting reliable intelligence about enemies. We could shut them down if we could get inside their buildings and rooms and listen to their plans. The vehicles would even have flappable wings as a disguise but use a separate propulsion system to fly. That way people noticing them would more likely think they are a bird. They need a propulsion system to carry that much equipment on something so small. I think it is one of the most interesting things I have heard in a long time.
Judge Rules Against Ban on Gay Adoptions
Posted by clare3
A judge has ruled that a strict Florida law that blocks gay people from adopting children is unconstitutional, declaring there was no legal or scientific reason for sexual orientation alone to prohibit anyone from adopting. Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Cindy Lederman said the 31 year old law violates equal protection rights for the children and their prospecive gay parents. She rejected the state's arguments that there is "a supposed dark cloud hovering over homes of homosexuals and their children." Labels: Current Events, Family
She noted that gay people are allowed to be foster parents in Florida. She wrote in a 53 page ruling that "There is no rational basis to prohibit gay parents from adopting". Florida is the only state with an outright ban on gay adoption.

Cruise Ship Outruns Somali Pirates' Guns
Posted by clare3
News from of Nairobi, Kenya is about the luxury American cruise ship that was steaming across the Gulf of Aden. With hundreds of rich tourists on board, it just might have been too much for Somali pirates to resist. But the six bandits, riding in two skiffs and firing rifle shots at the gleaming ship, were outrun in minutes when the captain of M/S Nautica gunned the engine and sped away. This was according to a spokesman for the company on Tuesday. It is just a good thing the ship had that much power that it could get away. Labels: Cruise ship, Current Events, Pirates
Still, the implications had the pirates hijacked the ship, added a new dimension to the piracy scourge. NATO foreign ministers are groping for solutions at a meeting in Brussels and the United Nations extended an international piracy-fighting mandate for another year. I think they better get out there on the high seas and go after these guys and put a stop to them. Blow them out of the water if that is what it takes.

Germ Alert: Steer Clear of Chicken Trucks
Posted by clare3
Researchers have found that crates of chickens being trucked along the highway in the back of an open truck can shoot a bunch of nasty bacteria into the cars behind them. It is no laughing matter. Drivers stuck behind such a truck should try to pass them as quickly as possible. This came from a researcher at John Hopkins University.
However, it is not clear that the germy debris will make you sick. None of the scientists who studied this problem got sick. The disease causing bacteria in question are normally spread by food or water, not air. The researcher and her colleagues at the Bloomberg School of Public Health focused on the so-called Delmarva Peninsula, a coastal area that includes parts of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. The region is a chicken mecca, with one of the highest concentrations of broiler chickens per acre in the nation.

New Space Water System Has Hiccups
Posted by clare3
NASA's revolutionary new space water recycling system is having serious hiccups. The $154 million device for turning astronaut's urine and sweat into drinking water aboard the international space station shut down again Friday. The engineers on the ground were scrambling to figure out what was wrong. Labels: Current Events, NASA, Space Station
The astronauts and flight controllers are up against the clock as NASA wants samples of the processed urine before space shuttle Endeavor pulls away from the space station. The recycled water needs to be tested back on Earth before anyone up there can drink it and NASA commits to doubling the size of the space station crew next year.
Mike Fincke, space station commander, said it is common for things to go wrong in a flight test and stressed that he was not worried so far. Neither was he concerned about eventually drinking the final product. Sounds yucky to me. I don't think I could bring myself to drink it.

Remains of Slave Ship Recovered
Posted by clare3
I thought this was very interesting. Marine archaeologists have found the remains of a slave ship wrecked off the Turks and Calcos Islands in 1841, an accident that set free the ancestors of many current residents of those islands. Some 192 Africans survived the sinking of the Spanish ship Trouvadore off the British ruled islands, where the slave trade was banned. Labels: 1841, Current Events, found sunken, slave ship
Over the years the ship had been forgotten, said researcher Don Keith. So when the discovery connected the ship to current residents the first response was kind of a shock and a lack of comprehension. After word got out people really got on board with it and the local museum has assisted the researchers. This is the only known wreck of a ship engaged in the illegal slave trade.
India Says Gunman Linked to Pakistan
Posted by clare3
We have seen the terrible killings and fires in Mumbai, India on the news the last few days. Most of the gunmen were killed but the only one captured after a 60 hour terrorist siege said he belonged to a Pakistani Militant group with links to the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir. This gunman was one of 10 who paralyzed the city in an attack that killed at least 174 people. It is obvious that India's security is weak. Labels: Current Events, deaths, fires, India, Mumbai, terrorists
India's top law enforcement official resigned, bowing to growing criticism that the attackers appeared better trained, better coordinated and better armed than police. The last I heard 6 Americans have been killed and the number may have grown by now.
Authorities were still removing bodies from the bullet and grenade scarred Taj Mahal hotel, a day after commandos ended the violence that began Wednesday night. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh promised to strengthen maritime and air security and look into creating a new federal investigative agency. Some doubt change is possible. We have sent Secretary of State Rice over to New Delhi.
